About Sal
I'm a PhD student in Cognitive Systems Engineering with a strong background in advanced math, engineering, and psychology. I’ve worked on research projects with NASA, Honda, and the National Science Foundation, applying skills in calculus, linear algebra, and machine learning to real-world challenges. My goal as a tutor isn’t just to help students pass a test, I want to help them think better, build lasting understanding, and see how what they’re learning connects to the world around them. I work one-on-one with students to expand their curiosity, boost their confidence, and develop problem-solving skills that go far beyond the classroom. Whether it’s breaking down a tricky math concept or exploring a scientific process, I tailor every session to the student’s learning style. If you're looking for a tutor who goes beyond memorization and truly invests in your growth and ability to learn, I’d love to work with you.

My tutoring approach focuses on building deep understanding, not just short-term performance. I begin by identifying your strengths, challenges, and goals, then tailor my teaching to their learning style. Whether you need clear, step-by-step explanations, visual aids, or real-world examples. A typical lesson includes a quick review of prior material, a focused breakdown of new concepts, and time for guided problem-solving and reflection.
I bring a systems-thinking mindset from my background in cognitive and systems engineering, which helps students not just solve problems but understand why the solutions work. What sets me apart is my ability to connect advanced STEM topics like calculus, linear algebra, or machine learning—to everyday thinking and future careers, helping students feel more motivated and capable. My lessons are ideal for high schoolers in AP or honors classes, undergraduates in math, engineering, or psychology courses, and any student who wants to strengthen their foundation and learn how to think like a research scientist or engineer.
