About Jayne
Throughout my career, I have always aspired to be responsible, diligent, hard-working, and thoughtful. I have built a reputation as someone who students and staff can turn to when they have difficulties. This empathy and warmth are something that I truly pride myself on. During nearly 40 years of teaching, I have participated in every aspect of school life, from being Chair of the PTA to running and producing school plays. In this time I have been: CV - Teacher of English Literature and English Language from ages 11-18 encompassing KS3, KS4, GCSEs and A-Level English Literature - Head of Year: Managing one full-time deputy, 14 form tutors and their forms as they progressively moved through the school from Year 8-11. This involved transition from the end of Year 7 to Year 8, preparation for Upper-School and GCSEs, liaising with the director of Sixth Form as they progressed into further education. - Senior SEN teacher. trained in SEND at school, and have since held workshops on differentiating work - Assistant Inclusion Director: I moved into teaching all years English with SEN, acting in support of the SENCO and training other staff in teaching SEND children, delivering the curriculum in an inclusive and supportive way for students who may need extra help. - The only Nurture form teacher for 5 years, guiding students with SEND and complex needs through their academic careers, some of them into a transition into a special school and some into colleges and placements elsewhere, building and strengthening confidence and writing references on their behalf. Not only this but I have done additional work including: - Developed the school counselling service and qualified in Level One training in bereavement counselling. - Trained and supported young teachers, working with NQTs and trainees to develop their subject-specific and pastoral skills acting as a mentor, coach, lesson observer, and at times liaising with college tutors, running lunchtime sessions for them and always aiming to promote growing confidence in young teachers and practice. - Worked alongside recently-appointed literacy coordinator giving advice when she has been creating resources for literacy delivery for the whole school. - Delivered GCSE English alongside Entry-Level English (ran by the WJEC) for the weakest children. I ran this for several years before my school stopped using the programme. It was so successful that I received praise from the exam board for the delivery and organisation of my students' speaking and delivery tapes. Around the same time, I delivered morning slots of training for teachers from local schools who were interested in presenting lessons in the same manner. One school was so impressed that a group of teachers was given funding to establish a SEND-specific classroom like mine in their school. Qualifications: BA (Hons) Humanities and Social Studies, Manchester University. PGCE - Secondary Education, Didsbury School of Education, Manchester. Certificate in Counselling.

My classes are for any pupil who wants and needs to improve their skills in this vital subject. Each lesson lasts for one hour and my methodology is completely holistic, tailoring each lesson specifically to a pupil's individual needs. I know how to provide support for a child to flourish and engage with their subjects successfully. My teaching has been rated 'Outstanding' in a Pioneers inspection. From a Head of Year to becoming a senior SEN English teacher, I have been teaching full-time throughout this period in secondary schools across all ages and abilities. As a tutor for 30 years, I have worked with students in reading, writing, literacy, English Language, and English Literature to help them to reach their goals. Although my focus in the past ten years has been on students that perhaps have some barriers to learning, I have always continued to also support students who are very high achieving and who wish to boost and polish their skills at top levels! My specialisms are English Literature and English Language from Years 7-11, and A-Level English Literature. Additionally, I can offer tuition to Key Stage 3 in those valuable years that lead up to examinations covering English Language, English Literature, and History. I can provide support for primary juniors with English, preparing them for the transition into high school in this essential subject and a new phase of learning. However, I am very flexible and can tailor my resources and approach for children at the beginning of their primary journey. As well as working with upper and middle ability range students, I have also been a specialist teacher at exam level for students who find studying very difficult, perhaps because of a SEND issue. With a background of 16 years as a Head of Year and a deep involvement in pastoral welfare, I use a holistic methodology in teaching children; listening to them and their parents, and pacing and differentiating in whatever way is necessary to enable everyone to thrive. Even if a child is doing well in a subject, they may need confidence boosting to sustain and stretch themselves to their very best. What does my price include? - Personalised resources - Weekly progress reports - Detailed feedback on homework - Support at any time should you require it! Learning should be a fun and enlightening experience. This is vital to my approach to teaching. Learning is not just writing but a combination of reading, writing, listening, speaking and expressing yourself. Tuition includes all elements of these, enabling students to grow in confidence and ability and thrive in and beyond their exams! If you feel I can be of help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Jayne is a very thoughtful tutor and, according to my son, is very easy to get on with. Her approach has been supportive, encouraging and patient. Never did I think my 14-year-old son would engage with lessons and get so much out of them. His confidence has increased, he is happier and the difference has been noticed by his teachers. I would happily recommend Jayne as a tutor.
Jayne is a fab tutor have had her over a year now, best English tutor I could of got for my son. Works in different ways to keep my son on track.
Jayne has been an excellent tutor for my daughter. She is kind, patient and encouraging. My daughter is actually reading for enjoyment again as a result of her lessons with Jayne.
Jayne is absolutely fabulous, you won’t be disappointed. Jayne has been with us through GCSE’s and we have kept her on, now my daughter is entering into year 13 Jayne is helping her with course work but also applications for uni and personal statements. Jayne understands children and teens and knows how to get through to them in a way that is both respectful and easy to understand. She looks at their learning pattern and works with them. She was recommended to us and we haven’t been disappointed.
Jayne is absolutely fabulous as both a teacher and confidence builder. My son Jack was facing his GCSE exams and was getting anxious about his English skills. He is a non-reader and aside from his lessons in school, he asked for some help in understanding the literature coupled with his creative writing skills. Jayne completely turned this around for Jack, ultimately bringing out his confidence and enjoyment in the literature by Shakespeare and Dickens, bringing it to life and relatable in his mind. He began to understand the subtle meanings in the quotes and was able to feel good about his exams/assessments. Jack was happy each week to learn with Jayne virtually, making it fun and as such, his teacher in school very quickly was praising Jack with his input in class, again, helping him build his confidence. Jayne`s skills and support have been priceless for him, worth every minute and penny, as her expertise in exams etc has meant that Jack has felt he has given it, overall his best shot. I shall update this with Jack`s exam result in 2 months' time. I look forward to having Jayne`s support in the future for Jack`s younger brother. Thank you Jayne, one in a million!”
Jayne is a fantastic and resposible teacher, she helps my son Thomas with his grammar, comprehension, writing. Thomas starts making progress, thanks for all your effort Jayne.
Jayne is my daughter`s GCSE English tutor, my daughter is very happy with the way she teaches, the lessons are very engaging and concepts are explained very clearly in a way that my daughter can understand. And Jayne emails all subjects to my daughter to let her prepare the lesson. My daughter got grade 8 in English language GCSE exam last year. She is so happy with Tutor Jayne. Thank you Jayne."
"Jayne is a very professional tutor, my daughter loves having her!"
I've just graduated with a First Class MA English Literature, having already and taken a BA (Hons) English Literature, and I would not have been able to complete either of these degrees without the amazing guidance of my mum, Jayne. Patient, dedicated and determined, Jayne is always hoping to help anyone reach their full potential. I have seen my mum in action teaching classrooms full of excited pupils, and I never fail to be astonished by her talent. As a holistic teacher, Jayne immediately recognises exactly what a pupil needs to be the best they can be, from recommending summer reading lists to pupils to offering out-of-hours guidance and feedback. As someone who has wanted to teach from her first day of school, a lifelong passion for books and learning has infectiously spread from Jayne to her students, and I couldn't be prouder to call her my mother and my teacher!
