About Sally
Hi. I have been teaching since 2007, firstly in Further Education as a Hospitality and Catering Lecturer, then the last 3 years I have been a Food Technology Teacher in a Secondary School. I gained a degree in Lifelong Learning after I gained my Certificate of Education whilst I was a lecturer in Further Education. In anyone year I would be teaching between 60 and 85 students. In Further Education I taught many qualifications: Skills for Working Life at Entry Level 3, Functional Skills Maths & English Level 1 & 2, Cake Decorating NVQ Level 2, Professional Chefs NVQ Level 1 & 2, VRQ Chefs Level 1 & 2, Hospitality NVQ Level 2 and Event Management Level 3 all in Further Education. In Secondary school I have been teaching NCFE Catering & Hospitality and WJEC Catering & Hospitality Vocational Level 2.
In Further Education I made sure all my students passed by giving them individual support when required. The only reason a student failed is because they gave up on the course.
In Secondary School the students work to Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*. Majority pass with a merit however increasing numbers are achieving distinction and distinction* with a minority achieving a pass.
Prior to teaching I trained as a chef after leaving school gaining my City & Guilds Level 1 & 2. I have worked as a chef in many capacities though favouring the Pastry Section in Bournemouth, London, Kent, Italy and a Greek Island

I base my classes around the needs of the student or class based on prior discussion. Lesson will start with a short recap/prior knowledge then checking for understanding with a short Q & A/Quiz. Continue with an introduction to the new topic whilst checking for prior knowledge. Show visual examples/video/scenario clips of the topic as well as adding my own experiences. Continue by asking for examples experienced by students and engage in discussion time. A short exercise will be set with possibility of marking each other's work. Set homework and discuss next lesson's topic. Possibility to end with a subject related Kahoot. This is based on using Teams. I would also invite feedback from the student as to their preferred learning styles and changes to lesson structure.
