About Hannah

There’s something incredibly powerful about watching a student discover their voice—not just how it sounds, but how it feels. Over the past 7 years as a vocal tutor, I’ve worked with students from all walks of life—some entering school choirs for the first time, others preparing for conservatory auditions or stage roles. What unites them is a desire to connect, to be heard, and to express something real. My teaching is rooted in this idea: that your voice isn’t something you find outside yourself, but something you uncover and grow into. In our lessons, we build the essentials—solid breath control, supported tone, accurate intonation, clear diction, and healthy resonance. But we also dig deeper into performance artistry: phrasing, musical intention, emotional delivery, and storytelling. Every student receives a customized vocal plan based on their voice type, current level, and future goals. We explore a wide range of genres—from contemporary pop to Broadway ballads to indie folk—because singing across styles helps unlock different colors and textures in your voice. Each session includes a blend of guided warm-ups, technique drills, song study, and performance coaching. I also incorporate digital tools like pitch-matching software, practice logs, and self-recording exercises to encourage accountability and track growth. One of my most important roles as a teacher is to help students build confidence. That means creating a learning environment where they’re safe to try, safe to fail, and safe to grow. I emphasize progress over perfection, expression over imitation. Whether we’re preparing for an audition or just working through a favorite song, every lesson is an opportunity to learn something new—not just about your voice, but about yourself. We also cover vocal health in every unit: proper vocal hygiene, fatigue management, warm-up/cool-down routines, and how to care for your voice when sick or stressed. My goal is to make sure students leave each lesson not only sounding better but feeling stronger, more expressive, and more connected to their artistry.

My approach to voice teaching is guided by a simple belief: every voice has value, and every singer deserves to be heard fully and truthfully. I help students cultivate this truth through a combination of technical refinement, emotional exploration, and cultural inquiry.

We begin by establishing vocal function—ensuring that breath, phonation, resonance, and articulation are coordinated in ways that support freedom, endurance, and flexibility. I use evidence-based techniques, somatic awareness, and gentle correction to foster a relationship of trust between the singer and their instrument. Technique, however, is never the end goal—it is the foundation for personal and artistic expression. I help students engage with repertoire in ways that feel emotionally authentic and dramatically alive. We examine lyrics for subtext, trace emotional arcs, and explore how musical and textual choices inform one another.

I encourage creativity in this process—bringing in personal storytelling, improvisation, and movement to enrich interpretation. Repertoire selection is approached with intention and context. We sing pieces that challenge, inspire, and represent a range of musical traditions. We also study the history and significance of each work, fostering ethical awareness and cultural literacy. Singing is never divorced from the world around us, and I help students understand their place within larger artistic and social landscapes. Perseverance is a crucial part of the journey.

I support students through vocal transitions, plateaus, and moments of doubt by creating a learning environment built on encouragement, honesty, and realistic goal-setting. Mistakes are reframed as opportunities; effort is always valued over perfection. My role is not only to teach skills, but to mentor artists—to help students recognize the power of their own voice, both as a technical instrument and as a vehicle for expression, connection, and change.
