About Katie

As a Master's student at Trinity College Dublin, originally from New York City, I bring both academic expertise and creative passion to my tutoring. With a background in Environmental Studies and Creative Writing, I have worked with learners of all ages, helping them build confidence in reading, writing, and self-expression. My teaching is supportive, structured, and tailored to each student. For academic writing, I focus on clarity, organization, and developing strong habits step by step. For creative writing and poetry, I encourage exploration through prompts, discussion, and close reading, so students can discover and refine their own voice. Whether you’re a student preparing essays, an adult seeking to improve your writing skills, or someone curious about poetry and storytelling, I provide a professional and encouraging space to learn and succeed.

English

I believe that learning English, whether it’s academic reading and writing, creative expression, or poetry, works best when it feels engaging, supportive, and tailored to the student’s goals. My teaching style strikes a balance between structure and creativity: I provide clear guidance on grammar, organization, and technique, while also fostering curiosity, self-expression, and confidence in each student’s unique voice.

I use discussion-based learning to make reading and writing interactive rather than intimidating.

For essays and academic writing, I guide students step by step through the process of brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and refining to build strong writing habits.

In creative writing and poetry, I use prompts, exercises, and close reading of texts to help students experiment with style, rhythm, and storytelling.

I adjust lessons for different learners. Whether someone thrives with structure or needs more open-ended exploration.

A typical lesson is 30–90 minutes, depending on age, focus, and schedule. I specialize in working with students aged 7-16, as well as those whose second language is English.

Sessions begin with a check-in, followed by skill-building exercises, reading/writing practice, and reflection.

I also provide optional exercises to continue between sessions.
