About Jem
I have over 1000 hours tutorial experience teaching the three sciences, computing, and mathematics. I have also taught first-year university mathematics for business students, and received specialist training for one-on-one tutoring.
I taught physics at St Edwards's School Oxford for one year, and chemistry, computer science, and further maths at Charterhouse for one year. Both schools were very keen to keep me but having tried teaching I found I preferred private tutoring. However, these two years have made me an even better teacher.
I teach mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science from prep school to A-Level, including common entrance and scholarship preparation. I have spent five years at both Oxford and Cambridge, and as such am particularly familiar with how things work at these institutions. I can help with interview preparation and the whole application process.
I understand how important the quality of teaching is. It is very easy to make a simple concept appear complicated and confusing. But the flip side of this is that with good teaching, a complicated concept can be made simple! I find it to be extremely satisfying to communicate complex ideas in a comprehensible manner, and observe and share the student's pleasure with their new-found understanding and skills.
