My teaching method revolves around relating material to students. Too often do I hear that students can't be excited about English class because they have never been given the opportunity to read, analyze, and test on material that they care about. Let's be honest--students learn better when they invest themselves in material and preparation. I often utilize diverse texts with proven test-prep strategies that allow students to eventually take the reins on their own learning.
I would love to give you or your student the opportunity to not only test better in English class, but to immerse in and enjoy a wealth of new knowledge.
A typical lesson plan begins with guided reading analysis based on an assigned text along with my now-famous white board marker frenzy that breaks down a selection for deeper understanding. I then follow this with guided questions intended to have students not only get the 'right answer,' but to understand what the question is asking itself. This portion of the lesson is then followed by individual work, writing, or reading.
