  • When did you start practising? How did this passion find you?

I have always had a pencil in my hand! At first, art allowed me to create my own worlds and stories. Later it helped me to explore the world around me with fresh eyes. It has been with me my whole life and made it so much richer!
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

Such a difficult question! For being a master of figures and ridiculously ahead of his time, it has to be El Greco. For the sheer love of oil paint and how to use it, it will always be Willem de Kooning! For manga, it has to be Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira. I first read it when I was 15, it blew my mind then, and it still does!
  • What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

Just two things: Patience and practice! Everyone can draw! It is like any other skill! Nobody expects to be born knowing how to play the piano, but almost everyone believes drawing is a God-given talent. It is not. Practice is the key to any skill!
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

It is alright to put something away and come back to it with fresh eyes.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?n

It makes me feel that I can create any reality I want!
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I was incredibly proud when my paintings were exhibited next to Picasso and Andy Warhol at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. It was my first museum show!
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student, by their ability or quick progression?

I have been surprised by the talent of a five year old boy who creates his own hilarious comic strips! They are so good I would happily buy them!
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I love my job, and I love showing people that anyone can pick up a pencil and draw!
