1. Teaching Method and Techniques:
My teaching approach is deeply rooted in practical experience and creative exploration. I believe that filmmaking, scriptwriting, and acting are arts that are best learned through a blend of theory and hands-on application. I utilize a teaching technique that combines experiential learning with story-driven exercises to help students connect emotionally and intellectually to the material.
I start by building a solid foundation of core principles—storytelling structure, character development, camera techniques, and effective communication. From there, I encourage students to work on their own projects, utilizing a mentor-apprentice model where they receive personalized guidance, constructive feedback, and the tools to experiment creatively.
I also emphasize collaboration. I often simulate real-world scenarios—such as creating mock film sets or script readings—allowing students to understand the value of teamwork in film production. Drawing from my background as a military documentarian and anthropologist, I incorporate an observational approach, encouraging students to find stories within their environment and tell them authentically.
2. A Typical Lesson Plan:
Introduction & Warm-Up (15 mins):
Review of previous work or assignment.
Interactive discussion to set the creative intention for the class.

Showcase examples from famous films, discussing what makes them effective.
Hands-On Activity (30 mins):
Practical exercise, such as shooting a short scene, developing a script outline, or performing an acting exercise.
This often involves using accessible equipment like mobile phones, teaching students how to maximize their tools.
Creative Showcase & Feedback (20 mins):
Students present their work.
Guided critique that focuses on constructive feedback and encourages self-reflection.
Wrap-Up and Assignment (5 mins):
Summarize key takeaways.
Assign a creative project to practice independently, such as capturing a one-minute short story or writing a dialogue scene.
