Unravel the mysteries of Physics!

With all the scientific and technological advancements we have witnessed in recent years, you might wonder if there are still things left to be discovered. And obviously, the answer to that question is yes! The universe is infinite and often inexplicable. Here are some unveiled enigmas!

  1. The Multiverse Theory: Scientists hypothesize that it is possible that what we call the universe is one among infinite spaces. Since, according to the laws of quantum physics, the configuration of particles within each space is finite and repetitive, this could mean that there are infinite parallel universes.
  2. The Implosion Theory: The well-known Big Bang theory is the most widely accepted theory of creating the universe as we know it. But this same theory gave rise to the theory of the Big Implosion, which mentions that the universe will not only slow down its expansion speed but will also pull everything back in an implosion.
  3. Existence of Dark Matter: Dark matter is made of particles that do not absorb, reflect, or emit light and, therefore, cannot be detected by observation. However, scientists know it exists because of the gravitational force it exerts on other elements of matter. For this reason, it is believed to be made of massive particles that interact weakly with each other, making it challenging to identify.
  4. Swallowed by a Black Hole? Theorized by Albert Einstein and discovered by Stephen Hawking, black holes are immensely dense objects from which not even light can escape. There is still no certainty about what might happen to a body when it crosses the event horizon of a black hole. However, astrophysicist Dr. Becky Smethurst claims that if one somehow falls into a black hole, something called "spaghettification" would happen to one's body.
  5. Turbulence: Another unsolved problem: Turbulence is the phenomenon responsible for the appearance of eddies or tornadoes in gases and liquids. It belongs to the class of "nonlinear" phenomena, such as chaotic phenomena. Systems of this type are susceptible to changes in initial conditions, and a slight alteration can completely change the subsequent evolution of the system. This makes it impossible to predict the long-term behavior of a turbulent fluid.

Physics in the Modern World

With our advancements thanks to physics, you might wonder if there are still things left to be discovered. And obviously, the answer to that question is yes! With the mysteries of physics we have just mentioned, the sky’s the limit. There are still tons of things waiting to be discovered, and we can expect physicists to make it their life’s mission to discover more things in the world and the universe. Physics isn’t limited to what we have on this planet. It also reaches as far as other galaxies and universes!

But for now, since we’re still waiting for more discoveries, we can discover how physics impacts the modern world. You might not notice it, but this branch of science is responsible for a lot of things that we get to enjoy today. Here are some of the most amazing applications:

Space Flight

Until man stepped on the moon for the first time, traveling to where the stars are was a foreign concept. Today, we can see several satellites in outer space and hear about astronauts taking trips to other planets. What used to be a foreign idea now seems more normal than not. Getting to the moon was just one of the first few things that man has ever done with the help of physics. It wasn’t the easiest challenge to conquer, but it was a great accomplishment for the physicists who worked on it.

Nuclear Energy

You’ve probably heard about nuclear power plants that can light up an entire city without much fuss. The same goes for a nuclear bomb that can wipe out even more cities. But the point is, there’s so much energy waiting to be harnessed and used. All these are directly related to concepts of physics and their applications. What may help us prosper may also destroy us in the long run if we’re not careful. That concept is equally fascinating and scary - but as long as people use it for good, there’s nothing to worry about. Do you want to learn more? Discover various physics crash courses on Superprof.

Medicine

Gone are the days when doctors can only diagnose based on the symptoms they see on a patient’s body. Thanks to physics, we can now use it to see inside a person’s body. You can now see everything from the human brain down to the skeletons. One of the most useful ones is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, which lets you take pictures of what’s inside the human body. It only takes a few minutes, whether the human brain or other body parts. Also, radiation therapies are one of the most important contributions of physics to medicine because this is commonly used to kill cancer cells.

Physics has made tons of significant contributions to the world. The ones mentioned above are just some of them, and still more remains to be discovered. Looking at this list, it’s easy to see why many people still want to pursue this science degree, even if it’s challenging!
