About Intasar

I have been tutoring since 2012 to fund my education expenses. I formally began tutoring in 2014 as part of my vocational training as a teacher in Ghana, funded by the University of Edinburgh. The formal training has taught me a lot about curriculum development, time management, and fusing my teaching methodology to my students’ needs. I have been tutoring in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths, in person and online; the hybrid model has allowed me to reach out and teach students in 8 different countries. I have successful students from these past five years that have not only commended my work ethic but can also stand testament to my enthusiasm.

My excellent academic career has nurtured in me a natural talent for teaching. My experiences have taught me how to tackle one problem at a time, and I believe that using this approach—paired with my unconventional examples that force students to think outside the box—I can truly provide an excellent understanding and explanation. My teaching methodology is based on two main things: skill development and adaptation. Initially, I create a skeleton of the most suitable methodology tailored to the preferred curriculum, after which, I adapt that lecture to the specific needs of the student based on their knowledge and grasp of the concepts. Second, I like to develop analytical and scientific ability along with knowledge in my students, and for that, I use a combination of resources in the form of worksheets, class tasks, and past papers. Last, I believe in the strong ethic of providing feedback to the parents, so that they are aware of their child’s progress. Frequently Asked Questions: Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach maths, mechanics, statistics, chemistry and physics. I also teach biology up to GCSE level. Do you offer discount on Block booking? Yes, I also offer a discount on block booking. When are you available? My timetable is quite flexible. I am happy to work weekdays, week evening and weekends. Which ages and levels do you teach? The majority of my students are between the ages of 10-18, but I also teach college students. I am also helping foundation and first year university students. Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? GCSE, A/S-level, A-level, IB, School entrance exams and SATs Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I use Zoom online sessions since it has many tools and features specially designed for interactive and visual learning. I am fully equipped with modern gadgets for e-learning. I use Google drive and docs to share files.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have been passionate about STEM subjects since primary school. I won several local and national science marathons. I have been tutoring since 2012 after finishing secondary school. I formally began teaching in Summer of 2014 as a vocational teacher in Ghana. This program was funded by the University of Edinburgh in collaboration of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-UK).
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Further Mathematics up to A levels. I also teach Biology up to GCSE level. Apart from teaching, I also like to motivate my students to explore scientific concepts and connect theoretical principles to daily life practical applications.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I am very lucky to have several inspiring teachers in my life. I have had the privilege to be taught by an inspiring high school chemistry teacher. She instilled a profound love for sciences and encouraged me to ask questions and never take "No" for an answer. She helped dramatically in connecting theoretical chemistry principles to practical applications. My numerous discussions with her further encouraged me to consult other reference books on the subject to clarify my concepts.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, out of box thinking, and good interpersonal skills. You must treat your students with respect and compassion.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

In chemistry, I would highly recommend memorising first 20 elements' names, symbols, atomic numbers, and atomic masses just like the multiplication table in maths. Although the periodic table is available to you, memorising first twenty elements will catalyse your comprehension of basic concepts.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

I do face some problems making my online students utilise advance study tools, as not all of them are tech-savvy. But thanks to the modern applications like Google Drive and Zoom, it is becoming a thing of past now.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is my passion and I love every single minute of it. Apart from that, I love hiking, trekking, and outdoor activities. I also enjoy reading in my leisure time.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I have taught more than 100 students and not just that I was able to inspire them as well. Watching them succeed and knowing your small role in their success is a pleasant and fulfilling experience. I guess that makes me a superprof.
