About Kelsey

Hi! I’m Kelsey Perez, a certified teacher with over 10 years of experience in K–12 education. Throughout my career, I’ve helped students build confidence, master essential skills, and achieve academic success—and now I’d love to help you do the same! I specialize in supporting learners as they strengthen their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills through engaging, personalized, and supportive lessons. Whether your child needs help catching up, staying motivated, or pushing ahead, I provide the structure, patience, and encouragement they need to thrive. My favorite part of teaching is witnessing those breakthrough moments—when a student finally conquers a challenging five-page essay, sounds out a tricky multisyllabic word, or finishes a 300-page book and realizes they actually enjoyed it. That kind of growth is pure magic—and it’s why I love what I do. Let's create some magic together!

About the lesson

What I Offer
Subjects:
- Reading Comprehension
- Writing & Grammar
- English Language Arts
- Homework Support
- Test Prep (CAASPP, SBAC, Reading Benchmarks)
- Grade Levels: Kindergarten through 12th grade

Support for:
- Struggling readers/writers
- Advanced learners seeking enrichment
- Students with learning differences who need structure and confidence-building
- Bilingual or English language learners
-Summer enrichment for students whose districts don't offer summer programs

My Tutoring Style & Approach
I use a warm, structured, and visual approach—breaking down big ideas into smaller, manageable steps. Additionally, I intentionally break instructional time into short, engaging chunks to avoid overwhelming your child’s brain and to keep their attention throughout the entire session. This method helps students stay focused, process information more effectively, and feel successful every step of the way. Lessons are active and interactive, using strategies like graphic organizers, games, real-world examples, and student choice to keep learners engaged and growing.

A Typical Lesson Includes:
1. Quick check-in & learning goals
2. Skill-building mini-lesson with guided practice
3. Independent or interactive activity
4. Review & feedback with next steps or "homework" help

Lessons follow an "I do, We do, You do" structure. First, I model the skill or concept so you can see exactly what to expect. Then, we practice it together until you feel confident. When you're ready, you'll try it independently. If you run into any difficulties, we’ll revisit the material and practice together again until you’re ready to give it another try on your own.

What Sets Me Apart:
1. I’m a trained classroom teacher who knows the K–12 curriculum (state standards) and what works

2. I create custom learning plans that match your child’s pace, interests, and learning needs.

3. I’m highly visual and organized—perfect for students who need structure or learn best with visuals.

4. I build confidence while building skills, especially for reluctant learners.
