About Jay
I am an experienced tutor in English and writing, having tutored and taught at all levels from elementary to doctoral students. I care deeply about students' success and meet them where they are in skill level. I establish a comfortable rapport and have fun in tutoring sessions. I am an informal and seasoned teacher/tutor who relates the importance of language skills to all endeavors. Above all, I am a teacher, coach, mentor, and guide in all I do and have done professionally. Most say I am a wise man.

Students through the years have said I am not like most English teachers ... because I focus on improving their English and writing skills through engagement.
A typical lesson plan examines students work, giving examples of how to improve, always an interactive process. Each lesson I emphasize one or two principles of writing/English.
What sets me apart is my experience with writing, knowing what professionals must write in most endeavors--what students call real-world experience. Also, I establish comfortable and meaningful rapport with all students. I meet them where they are and move their skills forward.
I have taught and tutored at all levels: elementary, high school, community colleges, and universities. Currently I am coaching a student through her PhD in educational leadership.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
My name is Bryson Potts, while I was in school I had the privilege of having Jay as my writing coach. I highly recommend Jay, it would be nearly impossible to find someone as skilled and helpful as he is. He genuinely cares about helping you improve and develop your skills. I still use his advice (especially about using parentheses as a whisper) and put it to practice in my daily work. Hopefully this has convinced you that Jay is the best to teach you!
Professor Smith was my writing tutor for an engineering lab class. Although it's been some time since I took this class, Professor Smith has definitely left a lasting impression. I have yet to meet an individual as passionate about writing as Professor Smith. When meeting with our class for introductions, I remember myself, as well as other students, being very impressed by Professor Smith's passion for writing. Professor Smith not only gave us very in-depth instructions to improve our writing, but he even had a multitude of books on writing styles, sentence structures, grammar and more that he recommended to us. With the number of professors that lack interest for the subject matters that they teach, it was refreshing to have Professor Smith as a writing tutor. In addition to his enthusiasm for writing, Professor Smith also has genuine interest in student success. I remember being thoroughly impressed by Professor Smith's attentiveness to my writing style and his constructive feedback that really helped improve the quality of my writing. Although I did not have the pleasure of interacting with Professor Smith for following semesters, his warm, energetic, humble, and calm demeanor was something I always looked forward to in our meetings. I did really well on all the lab reports I submitted with his guidance. I hope this recommendation affords other students the wonderful opportunity of being tutored by Professor Smith!
Mr. Jay Smith provided valuable insight during his review of several engineering reports. He is concise, personable, and effectively delivers constructive feedback that improves readability. I would highly recommend his services if you're interested in refining your writing.
Mr. Smith was a terrific writing coach during the time that I worked with him. He was great at helping me trim my lab reports to be precise and to the point. I would gladly recommend him to any student!
I have known Jay for over 20 years and, during that time, have had ample opportunity to witness his teaching style and expertise. He is a reliable and hard-working person who can be counted on to give the utmost effort for his students. I have no doubt that, provided with the opportunity, Jay will be an asset to Superprof.
Jay has not only served as a tutor for the past six years but a mentor and a lifelong friend. I obtained a Master's in Education with Jay's assistance, and I am now a candidate in a dissertation program. He helped me develop critical thinking skills and strategies that helped me write many academic papers. With his constructive feedback and encouragement, I learned how to apply the literature to support the relevance of my assignments.

My "one-hour" sessions are typically 70-75 minutes. A student's learning is more important than minutes on a clock.
