About Isobel
I am a recent graduate with a degree in English from UCL, and I hope to go on to study psychology in the future, with a particular interest in child psychology. A large part of this ambition comes from my passion for teaching and working closely with young people, helping them build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning. I have always enjoyed exploring how people think, learn, and communicate, which strongly influences the way I teach. I value patience, encouragement, and clear communication, and I aim to create a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing their own ideas. I find it especially rewarding to see students grow in confidence as well as academic ability. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, writing, and staying engaged with current ideas in literature, philosophy, and education. I am motivated, reliable, and approachable, and I genuinely enjoy building positive working relationships with both students and parents. Whether a student needs structured academic support or a confidence boost, I am committed to helping them reach their full potential.

My latest student achieved a Grade 9 in their English Language GCSE retake, and I’m passionate about helping students achieve these top grades. My lessons are highly interactive and student-led. I encourage students to think independently, develop their own ideas, and build confidence in their reasoning before I step in to guide their responses. This approach helps students become more analytical, articulate, and self-assured in their work, rather than relying on memorisation alone. I adapt my teaching methods to each learner’s goals, ability, and learning style, using discussion, targeted questioning, model answers, exam practice, and constructive feedback. Typical lessons last 60 minutes, though longer sessions can be arranged if needed. Lessons are suitable for students of all ages and abilities, whether they are building foundational skills at primary level, preparing for GCSEs or A-Levels, or working at undergraduate level. My aim is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students feel motivated, challenged, and capable of achieving their full potential.
