About Ashley

Ashley C. Mariani, from the Island of Puerto Rico, began dancing at the age of three and has spent over the last 20 plus years enjoying every moment of it. From classical training, to competitive training and traveling the world, Ashley has explored many aspects of the artistic world of dance. Ashley's training consists of ballet, jazz, tap, modern, Step, contemporary, hip-hop and Latin fusion. Over the years of living in NYC, Ashley has created and instructed specialized dance programs, developed a competition team for Success Academy, choreographed for public and private school recitals, and trained competition dancers in the tri-state area. Ashley prides herself in her teaching style, pulling from her upbringing and her love for the competition world. Ashley is the President and founder of Variety Pack Collective (Est. 2019) who collaborate with all kinds of visual artists. Working with companies such as DRIP Orlando, RAW Artists, Art of Stepping, Mark Morris Dance Group, Jennifer Muller/ The Works, and Underground Dance Movement. Ashley continues to work as a freelance artist in the tri-state area as an educator, choreographer and curator.

About the lesson

I have been dancing since I was 3 and have my Bachelor's in Dance Studies from the University of South Florida. I have made a career out of dance education over the last 10 years, and 8 of these years took place in NYC. I teach my students the importance of training your body for a specific style and the history of said style. I believe learning how to dance is not just about the steps but the connection with your body, and the music. How movement in your body makes others think or feel. How it allows the dancer to express themselves or move through hard feelings. Getting lost in dance and music is great, but understanding how to properly technically perform such skills takes time and discipline, which is what I am all about. A typical lesson with me starts with warm up & stretching, learning moves and where these moves may have originated or gained popularity, and then wrapping up the lesson with a small dance phrase before a cool down. I like to incorporate games as well for creativity and expression as the lessons continue.
