The first steps in guitar are understanding your instrument, holding it correctly, keeping it in tune, and playing simple chords.

• Guitar anatomy: knowing the parts (headstock, tuning pegs, nut, frets, neck, body, soundhole, bridge) helps you follow instructions and communicate with teachers.
• Posture and hand position: a relaxed grip and proper angle prevent strain and help your fingers move freely.
• Tuning: standard tuning is E-A-D-G-B-E from lowest to highest string, and staying in tune trains your ear.
• Open chords: these five shapes let you play countless popular songs within weeks.
• Strumming patterns: a steady down-up motion in time teaches rhythm and coordination.

With these basics solid, you can learn almost any beginner song and build toward barre chords and fingerpicking.

With a score of 5⭐ out of 5, guitar tutors in St. Catharines consistently receive excellent feedback.

This rule states that a minor pentatonic pattern shifted 3 frets lower becomes its relative major pentatonic.

• Example: play Am pentatonic starting at fret 5, then slide the whole pattern to fret 2 for G major pentatonic.
• Why it matters: learning one pattern unlocks both minor and major sounds without extra memorization.
• When to use it: minor pentatonic sounds bluesy and emotional; major pentatonic feels bright and uplifting.

Private lessons help you internalize this connection so switching scales becomes automatic.
