I initially spend time trying to identify the gaps in the students knowledge and where they're struggling, come up with a study plan to ensure all content is covered within a certain timeframe and ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the content before refining exam techniques. This also includes teaching them/encouraging the students to learn how to mark their own work.
