About Benjamin

Hi!

I'm a third year student studying chemistry at the University of York. The way in which it is involved in all areas of life has always intrigued me. As well as studying, in my spare time I play the cornet in a competing brass band which is a good challenge and escape from uni work, enjoy playing board games with my friends and walking and cycling in the countryside. I also have to admit I enjoy lazy evenings watching films and series on the TV!

I studied Chemistry, Physics and Maths at A level (the classic make life hard work combo!) and enjoyed the problem solving and challenge of these subjects and am happy and confident to tutor any of these; with them all forming a part of my chemistry degree in one way or the other. I also got a grade 9 in GCSE biology and am studying some more biological modules in chemistry so I can confidently explain biology too!

About the lesson

Having gone through both GCSEs and A levels in recent years I can explain the subject content in a simple yet detailed way. As much as I enjoy studying Chemistry and other sciences, I fully appreciate that for some it may seem irrelevant or just not their thing! So I will try and make my lessons as fun and interesting as possible whilst hopefully passing on some of my enjoyment for science subjects. From explaining concepts from scratch where lessons may have been missed, to revising key concepts just before an exam, I'll plan lessons bespoke to your learning requirements. I've always found practice questions to be one of the most useful forms of revision so I will give out regular practice questions to tackle during my lessons to support what we go through.

Whilst I was doing my A-levels I helped out in a maths class, answering questions and helping year 8 students with any difficulties they had so I have experience in passing on my knowledge to others and would happily do the same with my students!
