I want my students to come away from my lessons able to solve problems independently. I will help students with their homework by giving them a similar problem, walking them through how I would solve it, and extensively explaining each step as I go. Then, when I am confident that the student understands the process I have demonstrated, I will ask them to attempt their original problem using similar methods. I will be there to answer any questions or give a helping hand, but my goal is to make sure the student can completely go through a problem on their own with minimal help by fully understanding the underlying concepts rather than memorizing a process.
