About Arbaaz
I’m Arbaaz Syed, a Senior Consultant in Accounting Advisory at KPMG Canada. I’ve spent the past four years at KPMG, starting in audit with funds, insurance, and real estate clients before moving into advisory, where I work on complex accounting and financial reporting questions.
I’m based in Montreal and tutor university students in accounting and finance in my spare time. I enjoy teaching because I’ve seen firsthand that accounting becomes much easier once you understand the reasoning behind the rules rather than simply memorizing them.
My approach is simple: the why before the how. I want you to leave each session not only knowing how to solve a problem, but understanding why the solution makes sense.

I’m starting to tutor because of something I’ve noticed again and again: students who can handle the work but can’t quite see why the accounting works the way it does — and that gap is almost always fixable.
I tutor university students in accounting and finance, with a particular focus on McGill University and Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business.

Whether you’re struggling with debits and credits, journal entries, financial statements, revenue recognition, leases, consolidations, financial instruments, cost accounting, auditing, or financial reporting, I can walk you through the material step by step and connect it to how accounting actually works in practice.
My approach is straightforward: we start from what you already know, work through practice problems together, and I explain each concept in plain language — the why before the how. I use real examples of how these topics appear in financial statements and business decisions, because accounting makes a lot more sense when you can see what it’s actually describing.
I especially enjoy working with international students. If you study in English and find the textbook language or accounting terminology harder than the concepts themselves, that’s completely normal. We’ll slow things down, translate the terminology into plain English, and make sure you understand the underlying concept rather than simply memorizing a formula or procedure.
One thing I take seriously: I help you understand the material and prepare properly for exams. I don’t complete graded assignments or coursework for students.
Sessions are available online, and I can also meet in person in the Montreal area.
