About Layla

Having experienced cramped classrooms and the sometimes unproductive school environment, I truly believe there is no student who would not benefit from extra support - the personal enrichment I have had in the past from tutors is a large part of the reason I started tutoring to begin with.

I have just finished studying my A-Levels in English, Maths and Politics having achieved offers from 5 Russell Group universities to study English. At GCSE, I was one of only 322 students in England to achieve 11 Grade 9s, including English Language, Literature, Maths and Further Maths. This was decidedly not easy, but what I learnt from it is the sheer importance of not just subject knowledge but exam experience, which is often the true key to unlocking top grades.

I have 2 years of experience tutoring from the ages of 5 to 16 with varying educational needs both as part of a company and privately, so I am happy to help both those who need extra support and sometimes feel themselves struggling to keep up and those who wish to advance beyond their current class focus.

I am not only passionate about the subjects I teach but also confident about exam techniques, which is what really allowed me to excel in so many subjects at GCSE. I take pride in stressing the importance of developing the fundamental skills of each subject which are essential for achieving top grades and applicable to all exam boards equally, whilst also investigating their specifications closely to find those small quirks which may win examiners over!

About the lesson

I have 2 years of experience tutoring Maths and English from the ages of 5 to 16 and am happy to help with KS3/KS4 level English and Maths.

In general, a typical lesson may be split into roughly 4 segments:
1. Review - recapping the previous session and going over any revision tasks that may have been set
2. Tutorial - teaching the skill focus of the session
3. Supported Practice - going through some example questions together
4. Independent Practice and Review - exercising the skills taught independently to try and find and rectify possible misconceptions

This being said, lesson structure and length can vary depending on individual needs, from home and classwork assistance to skill tutorials to full exam paper walkthroughs for those studying for their GCSE exams (or wanting to get prepared early!).

Generally I find that sessions no less than 1 hour and no more than 2 work best for optimum productivity, but this can be very individual and I am happy to find what works for you!
