About Adam
I grew up speaking Korean and Mandarin Chinese, and received my formal education in them, so please be reassured you will also be learning what are standardized, native accents.
I have working fluency in Mandarin and Korean, as I worked at Chinese and Korean companies as a developer.
I've done professional interpretation services for Mandarin-Korean-English during my military services at the Korean DMZ, Panmunjom (where Trump and Kim shook hands in 2019).
I live in Seattle with my wife, and accept both online lessons and in-person lessons (at our place in U-district 98105).

My philosophy of teaching a language is helping you to get on your own feet, so you are able to teach yourself how to keep improving it by yourself with minimal tutoring in the long-term.
My experience tells that good language learners tended to be those who learned to use the language habitually over a long term whether by watching a drama or having a pen pal, rather than cramming them.
As your tutor, I aim to hold your hands through the first year to get you off on the right foot with pronunciation, grammar, writing, and appropriate vocabulary/sentence usage, so you have what you need to get on a lifelong journey of language learning without me.
Since high school, I've tutored people of all ages—from primary school students to working professionals. I have rich experience in tailoring and maintaining diverse curriculums for different age groups, based on their interests and pragmatic needs.
I am able to teach TOPIK, but I prefer to personalize an interesting and intellectually provocative curriculum that really engages the learner --- one that drives them to take initiatives in self-practicing and preparing the materials before each lesson.
One good way is going through a novel that uses plain, simple Korean—but one that is not a children's book—for beginners, so it actually makes for a fun and worthwhile read.
But repetitions and grinding are also inevitable processes of all language learning. Half of my teaching will accordingly be allocated to intense verbal practice premised on sentential memorizations, vocabulary quizzes, simulating cookie-cutter conversations in various scenarios, so you are conditioned to speak and think like a native speaker.
The other half will be devoted to reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. This is to ensure you are also able to read and write on papers, which will help you hone the basics that you need to self-learn should you become confident with the basics and might want to try studying on your own.
Helping you get on your own feet is my ultimate goal of teaching when it comes to language, as language learning is a lifetime process and there is only so much that a teacher can do for you (getting you started with the right pronunciations / intonation / grammar / vocabulary / speech habit / cultural understanding / speech etiquette). Most of the other processes depend on your habitual learning over the following years after the fundamental training from my end.
