About Anderson
My name is Anderson Garry, and I've spent more hours than I can count sitting at a piano while someone else sings. I learned that the best piano players are the ones who know when to play and when to be quiet — when to add a fill and when to just hold a chord and breathe. For the last 6 years, I've taught piano to singer-songwriters who want to accompany themselves, guitar players adding keys to their sound, and listeners who finally want to play the songs they love. I don't have a classical conservatory background. I have years of playing in folk bands, recording demos, and learning from records by ear. My students trust me because I don't overwhelm them with theory — I teach them to feel a song, find its chords, and play with taste and restraint. I've helped nervous singers learn to play without their voice and hands falling apart, frustrated beginners finally get their left hand and right hand to cooperate, and folk players add piano to their home recordings. With me, you won't play flashy or fast. You'll play beautifully — with space, with feeling, and in service of the song.

Hi, I'm Anderson Garry. I've taught piano for 6 years, and my specialty is the kind of piano that sits behind a singer — supportive, atmospheric, and rooted in Americana, folk, and roots music. Think Bruce Hornsby, Ben Folds, or the understated grace of a Gillian Welch ballad. If you want to accompany yourself or others without overpowering the voice, I'll show you how. We start with simple chord voicings in the middle register — leaving space for the voice, not crowding it. I teach you to play with feel, not just accuracy: how to soften your touch, roll chords, and use the sustain pedal to create warmth, not mud. For solo piano, we work on adding melodic lines between vocal phrases, simple fills, and intros and outros that frame a song. I also teach you to play by ear — to hear a song and find the chords without sheet music. My lessons are patient, intuitive, and built around songs that have something to say. You'll learn to play piano that breathes, listens, and tells a story right alongside the singer.
