About Kari

There are so many ways to learn a language - it's all about finding the way that works for you. I firmly believe in creating an accessible, stimulating and friendly environment so that anyone can aim high, gain confidence, flourish and ultimately succeed. I have experience tutoring GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A-Level German across a number of different examining boards. I find all tutoring very rewarding but I particularly like to support pupils, who are finding German challenging and are struggling to meet the grades they need or would like. I also have experience tutoring general German language in preparation for Goethe Institute examinations at A1, A2, B1 and B2. (A1-A2 are broadly equivalent to GCSE and B1-B2 are broadly equivalent to A-Level on the Common European Framework.) Perfect! Really miss our lessons now!
Kari and I kept going onto the Goethe B2 after a successful year of working together to prepare for my B1 exams. Passed with distinction again thanks to Kari's great teaching and coaching along the way. As usual, Kari did a lot of prep to get me exam ready with vocabulary and writing drills. She has beautiful turns of phrases etc that really helped me prepare for the written and spoken parts of the exams. She's also a great person to get to know. Now that I'm done, I miss our weekly lessons!

Perfect! Really miss our lessons now!

Passed with distinction again thanks to Kari's great teaching and coaching along the way. As usual, Kari did a lot of prep to get me exam ready with vocabulary and writing drills. Our daughter needed some help before her exam and we had been let down by one of the tutors. Kari made time to teach our daughter and I am truly grateful for her help. Kari is well organised, understanding and full of encouragement and praise. Each lesson was followed up with a task which she checked in her own time. Our daughter enjoyed her lessons. Kari is a great tutor who is great at teaching and very flexible in her approach with adult students. She does a lot of research to answer obscure grammar questions, has a vast arsenal of material to help students master the subject and pushed me without breaking my confidence leading up to the exams. I felt very prepared by the time I sat for my A2 Goethe German test, and scored 99%, a feat which wouldn't have been possible without Kari's support!

Kari very kindly offered to tutor me privately when my mother told her how I was falling behind in my A level German.
When I first met Kari, I knew instantly that I could feel at ease with her. She reassured me that my German was good, despite what my lecturers were telling me, and built my confidence significantly in learning the language.
At the time, I suffered with anxiety, and meeting new people was a big issue for me. But when I met Kari, I had no reason to feel anxious at all. Her friendly, positive attitude is a rare quality in many teachers, as I only know too well.
I strongly believe Kari helped me to overcome most of my anxieties, as she would often reassure me on many matters that worried me; going to university, for example. I would even like to add that I owe my university place to Kari. I had many worries about leaving home to study, but through her expertise and advice, I decided to study for a degree at a local college. Without Karis determination to see me achieve my true potential at university, I wouldn't be studying today, which is the best choice I have ever made.
Perhaps the most inspiring attribute to Kari is her genuine passion to teach. Coming from an underprivileged background, my mother knew that we wouldnt be able to afford too many weeks of tutoring, but although we offered Kari tuition fees, but she refused to take any payment. For Kari, teaching a student isn't about money. It's about making a difference to that students life - it's about watching a student flourish in the knowledge she shares with them.
Every week, Kari would print material in her own free time for me to learn from in our sessions, and she would even mark work she had set me in her personal time. Nothing was ever any hassle to Kari, because she just wanted to teach a student with a vast desire to learn.
When my exams came, I felt confident in taking them, and I had every right to. I passed both papers, and it was all thanks to Kari's guidance.
When Kari left our town to start a family, I knew she was leaving as my German tutor and my friend. She became a family friend, and we are still in contact, talking German at times too.
Any student would be lucky to have Kari as a tutor, and I still feel honoured to have been taught by her.

As a former teaching colleague of Mrs Magee I would highly recommend her as a tutor as she is a well-qualified teacher who pays meticulous attention to detail, has high expectations of her students and has copious energy to put into her lessons to allow her students to realise their potential. She always ensures she keeps herself up-to-date with current affairs in Germany, part of which comes through contact with her German family based in Berlin and she has a base of excellent resources to use in her lessons. I would highly recommend her as a competent, hard-working and approachable teacher who is always willing to do her best for those students who strive to do the best for themselves.
