About Niomi

I'm Niomi, I'm 17 and I'm hoping to study History and Politics at University (if I get the grades come August fingers crossed). In Year 12 I was committed to applying to the University of Oxford, so I spent hours upon hours over the summer writing and re-writing my personal statement. However, it wasn't until I had a second external opinion to discuss it with that I really felt confident in it and capable of sending it off to UCAS. I have since received an interview and offer which I am incredibly proud of, and would be more than happy to help students with advice around this.

Ultimately, my aim through these lessons is to provide a helping hand to students who potentially may lack the guidance on how to write a personal statement, which we will cover in great depth, or who may need that crucial second opinion- or both! As it is the summer I have abundances of time to be there for students who need my help to ensure that come September/October they feel ready and capable of sending off their personal statements.

About the lesson

I have handcrafted resources of personal statement tips I've curated from extensive research looking at top University requirements, and I'm more than happy to criticise drafts and provide feedback as I understand just how daunting creating a personal statement can feel when you have little support. We'll look at exemplar examples for your subject, set homework for you to do to add to your statement and enable you to produce a quality statement to ensure you put your best foot forward.

In experience, I have just finished my own A-levels and thus remember all too well the stress and constant doubt of crafting a personal statement, especially when your college/sixth form isn't particularly attentive. My aim is to be the support I myself would have liked to have received for students who are also struggling. I myself wrote my personal statement on a humanities subject, and have aided friends writing their own on subjects such as English and Geography, with my own for History and Politics/Politics and International Relations.

Although this is my first time tutoring, my experience in crafting personal statements is there and it's not only something I enjoy but something I wish to share, especially with students who may not feel their college provides them the necessary support.

These lessons are aimed at Year 12s/entering Year 13 as they complete their personal statements.
