About Linda

I am a fashion designer, art and design and textiles teacher. I have been teaching for 18 years at international schools in South East Asia, Cyprus and Spain. I have taught secondary level and tertiary, IGCSE Art and Design and A Level. My students regularly gain high results. I can advise you on your art work and also with the preparation of portfolio work.

About the lesson

My philosophy of education is based on a professional, positive, holistic and creative approach. This requires a welcoming and safe environment, that enables the student to burgeon both inside and outside of the classroom. A happy and secure child will be one that can ultimately fulfil his or her potential. This individual will be willing to take risks and naturally and organically develop independent thinking skills. My philosophy places imagination and innovation, at the forefront of learning. ‘Thinking out of the box’ opens endless doors in all walks of life, be it designer in its’ many forms, business man or social worker. Creativity in a student’s learning should be embedded from early years and continue throughout the learning experience.

I have accompanied pupils to exhibitions at home and overseas educational visits. For some students, this was the first time they had left their home country. The relationships with both parents and pupils are important, ensuring the individual obtains the most from the visits and feels at ease away from home. The trips delivered a wealth of experiences, both artistic, social and cultural. The pupils’ s subsequent development of their art work and often their ongoing interest in travel and becoming global citizen was stimulated by these forays. I think it is of vital importance to foster an understanding of both local and international culture. I encourage the students to explore far and wide for inspiration, extending their artistic journeys, informed by their visits to galleries and crafts people, at home and abroad.
As an international school art teacher and educator, I believe in lifelong learning and am constantly looking for ways to improve my subject knowledge and pedagogical skills. I have taught across the board and have experience of teaching Primary, British Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level, as well as the IB Diploma Program. Inside the classroom my expectations are that pupils are respectful of each other, teachers and their environment. They should be comfortable and confident in sharing their thoughts and ideas. They should be able to take risks and learn from their mistakes. Pupils should have clear behavioral boundaries and be motivated to develop and learn. As an inspirational teacher, I aspire to share my passion and understanding of art with my pupils. I encourage my students to work independently and interactively, developing both practical skills and artistic thinking of the highest levels. I believe in teaching a full and deep understanding of the basic painting, drawing, printing and technical skills. These are the building blocks for the students to achieve the highest of educational standards.
