About Liz

I have a very considered approach when teaching. One in which I deliver a high level of academic rigour balanced with a strong duty of student care and well-being. My aim is to help you find the fun in any project. In my experience, when a student finds the love for their work, designing buildings feels more like playing. Which makes the demanding work of producing the drawings and the models and the final presentation work, so much easier. I don’t have a specific design style or approach. My methods involve learning about what you want to achieve for your project, then working together to find the optimal next step and the most direct path so you can work steadily towards achieving your goals. I have taught over 3500 students in my role as Head of the Architectural Design Studio and worked directly with over 550 students as their Unit Leader, during my time at the University of Nottingham. Whether your design approach is pragmatic or conceptual or a mix of both, I can offer you insights at each stage of your project to help you produce the highest quality of work possible. So, whether you have fallen behind in your work due to illness or unforeseen circumstances and need help catching up, or if you feel you would benefit from some additional support and guidance from an experienced design tutor to help keep your project on track, then I am here to help.

About the lesson

Teaching Methodology: I tailor all my lessons to help you produce your best work at whatever stage of the design project you are currently working on. Whether you need some assistance finding that initial concept to drive your project, or developing the design of your project through all of its iterations, or producing the final presentation visuals and panels, to wow your tutors and reviewers, I can help. I am particularly skilled at offering a fresh pair of eyes when a student is stuck, as well as offering you support and encouragement to help you hit the required benchmarks throughout the design project. Lesson Duration: lesson can be tailored to your needs but are generally an hour in length for online lessons. Qualifications and experience: 2:1 degree and postgraduate diploma in Architecture from Kingston University. 18 years experience as Head of the Year 1 Architectural Design Studio and teaching studio across the undergraduate course at one of the UK's leading architecture schools at the University of Nottingham. I have received the Lord Dearing Award for my outstanding contribution to the development of teaching and student learning, along with four excellence in teaching awards based on my student evaluation of teaching scores. The lessons are for you if: you are currently studying for a degree in architecture, or you need help compiling your portfolio to apply for a place on an architecture course, or you would like to learn more about studying architecture before starting university and/or ahead of making your final degree choice.
