About Thomas

I have 10 years of experience playing Electric Bass and 2 years playing Double Bass. I've played with and continue to play with many notable musicians around Hobart including: Devon Robson, Jack Lester, Joe Richards, Matt Trenery, Matt Ives, Nigel Hope, Paul Gerard and Roman Astra amongst others. I play in bands of various styles from Trad Jazz, Bebop, Prog Rock and Metal. My time at the Conservatorium of Music taught me to be a very versatile musician and to be comfortable within most genres of music, from Electronic to Latin, I've pretty much dipped my toes in just about everything. So regardless of what you may want to learn, whether it's slap bass, walking bass lines or Metallica riffs, I should be able to help you out!

About the lesson

I approach each student individually to see their skill level, where they struggle and where I can help to get them to a higher level. I am versatile and knowledgeable in a wide range of styles and techniques and haven’t yet encountered a student with gaps in their knowledge or skills that I haven’t been able to help them with. If a student wants to focus more on theory than technique then that’s fine too. Thanks to my education I’m well versed in a wide range of musical styles and can help them get prepared as much as possible for any endeavors they may choose to take on in the future.

Thomas taught me bass guitar throughout 2019. As a music teacher myself, I found Thomas' teaching style to be relaxed and friendly. His knowledge of the instrument and it's music is wide ranging and he was able to guide me, a real beginner on the instrument and the style of music being explored, to a point where I could understand concepts that were totally new to me. I needed to learn bass so that I could start one of my own young students in it and Thomas helped me to do this. If you want to learn to play bass guitar I can thoroughly recommend Thomas as an excellent teacher.

Thomas has been teaching my daughter bass since September last year and in that time she has improved hugely. He is a fantastic teacher and very focussed on what skills she needs as well as inspiring her.

Update: For the time being all my lessons will be done via webcam until the Coronavirus situation has calmed down. If the lesson is cancelled on the same day that it’s supposed to occur, and I need to travel, then I will still charge for the lesson on that day. My webcam discounts are for 5 lessons it’ll be $35 and for 10 it’ll be $30.
