About Nicholas

Nicholas Matheos is an accomplished trombonist. He has studied bass trombone performance and has performed as a principal bass trombonist in a great deal of orchestras and other ensembles. He is currently the principal bass trombonist of the Cleveland Repertory Orchestra, Cinematic Symphony Orchestra (CSO), and the Video Game Symphony (VGS). Nick has also subbed for other orchestras. He has performed at the Ohio Renaissance Theatre for the official traveling Broadway stage productions of “Hello, Dolly!”, “West Side Story”, “Newsies”, and has been in many other pit orchestras for Playhouse Square. He is also a member of the American Music Federation. Nick is also a founding member of VGS and CSO (mentioned earlier). Nick has taken (more than a few) lessons with: -Sean McGhee -Prof. David Mitchell -Dr. Elizabeth Shafer -Jeff Dee -Gabe Rice -Don Lucas -Scott Hartman Nick now continues to expand his network throughout the East Coast, where he also studies. He holds substitute and some regular member positions throughout the state of New York and NYC, and the state of Massachusetts (especially Boston city).

About the lesson

- My teaching methods are usually quite open-minded, and I like to focus on every individual's needs. I do tend to fixate on the basics and one's ability to apply them to their everyday playing. I also like to focus on one's ability to play their horn and not just learning pieces. I would probably assign 1 or 2 etudes (short or long) and some excerpts (depending on one's abilities).

- What sets me apart from other tutors is my advanced knowledge and the massive amounts of professional experience I have as a player. I have subbed in major and regional orchestras. I am also a founding member of two professional orchestras and a community orchestra. I also hold permanent positions with a few professional orchestras.

- I'm open to giving lessons to high schoolers who are looking to pursue a future in performance and college students.

This man helped my son get into the school he wanted to get into. His teaching methods are raw and simple, but very effective. We also just went to go see him perform in the Cleveland repertory orchestra and it’s always cool to see a teacher show you why they’re a teacher!
