About Rachel

I worked as an ASL instructor using "Signing Naturally" coursebook at DHHC, Deaf Hard of Hearing Center in Florida.
I had the opportunity to work alongside with the current ASL instructor teaching her classes in three levels. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
Taught ASL classes to the community in the evenings while I was an Outreach Coordinator at the Center for Independent Living, so other adults could communicate with their fellow deaf consumers.
I even volunteered to have a group of churchgoers from my former church, The Next Level, teaching beginner's class for a year. I used Master ASL course book.
When my three children were babies, they learned ASL before they could speak English.
ASL is part of my life, my culture, and my preferred communication.

About the lesson

ASL is a beautiful, visual language. It has its own grammar, linguistic properties with information through the eyes. It has shape, placement, and movement of hands, facial expressions, and body movements that all blend into a language. It has its own unique rules of grammar and syntax.
I have learned SEE, Signed Exact English, then PSE, Pidgin Sign Language, then ASL, American Sign Language. The SEE and PSE, I was taught at a deaf school as a student from 6-12 grade.
I learned ASL while I attended National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
If you are a student, I would work with what you are being taught in class. I am open to tutor anyone, regardless of degree, level, or class.
