About Alexander
I've played piano since childhood and went on to earn my degree at Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. Before Berklee, I was named Most Valuable Player by the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Education, an honor recognizing my musicianship as a high school student.
Since then, I've continued to perform/record professionally as a working pianist. I've performed at respected Boston venues including Regattabar Jazz Club, Berklee Performance Center, Lilypad Jazz Club, and I performed the solo piano opening for Berklee's commencement concert at Boston's Agganis Arena in front of 8,000 people.
Beyond my credentials and performance experience, what matters most to me as a teacher is making lessons feel encouraging and never intimidating. I meet each student exactly where they are, help them develop their own musical voice, and focus on building real, lasting skill and confidence at the instrument. My students learn from someone who is not only formally trained, but actively performing and living the craft of music.

Whether you're an adult who always wished you'd learned, someone coming back to the piano after years away, or a teen who wants to actually play the music you love, my lessons are shaped around your goals and the sound you're after — not a one-size-fits-all method book.
I think playing music should feel more like learning a language than following a set of instructions. My focus is helping you find your own musical voice: we work on technique and sight-reading, but always in service of real playing — improvisation, ear training, harmony, rhythm, and repertoire drawn from the music you want to make.
That fits a wide range of players. Beginners start on music they actually recognize. Adults rebuild fluency at their own pace, on their own schedule. Teens dig into the genres they care about — pop, jazz, R&B, gospel, classical — or prepare seriously for college and music-school auditions. Lessons can go as deep into theory and musicianship as you like, or stay focused purely on playing.
As a Berklee College of Music graduate, my training is rigorous — but the lessons themselves are patient, relaxed, and built entirely around you. It's never too late to start, and you don't need any previous experience.
I teach in students' homes across the San Fernando Valley and Westside — Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Toluca Lake, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Westwood, Bel Air, and Pacific Palisades — and I also teach online, so lessons fit easily into a busy week.

To anybody that is curious about piano or music Alexander is a stand-up guy and an excellent teacher. The experience felt immersive and honestly a lot of fun. I was learning naturally and within five minutes of playing for the first time I was able to Master happy birthday. Definitely reach out if you are curious.
We have several piano players at our house, including a 50+ year old and a 10-year-old kid. I really appreciate how well Alexander Xhoja is able to introduce music, skills, and knowledge to each of us in the best friendly, tactical, and professional way. He truly knows a lot about the piano, and a vast plethora of songs. As a lawyer, I personally find it very impressive that he has a graduate degree in music and has experience playing for large crowds as well. I feel the great deal of passion he has, and it brings out the best from all of us. It helps me stay consistent and dedicated. My musical skills have improved since we began, and it has been a lot of fun too. Sometimes, we create songs on the fly and craft as we go along, and I find that exciting. He is also punctual and a great energy to be around. Highly recommended! 5 stars.
Alexander is very direct and intentional. He wants you to understand all facets of playing the piano. I appreciate his patience and guidance. Look forward to continuing learning… Mike Pfefferman
