About Shadi

EN:
As the best-rated swim coach in Montréal on Superprof, I’m proud to share my lifelong passion for swimming with my students. A former competitive swimmer with over 20 years of experience, I like to say I was born in the water. I continue to train and compete in long-distance events, and recently won silver and bronze medals in 5K open water swim competitions. I bring that same passion, discipline, and real-world experience into my teaching.

I’m known not only for my knowledge and professionalism, but also for making every lesson motivating and fun. Whether you’re just starting out or fine-tuning your technique, I’ll be in the water with you—supporting you every step of the way.

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working with more than 100 incredible students, all through private adult swim lessons in downtown Montréal. From helping people overcome their fear of water to preparing for triathlons, it has been an amazing journey—and I’m proud to say I’ve never failed to teach someone how to swim or help them rediscover their love for the water.

I’d love for you to be part of this growing community of swimmers, and I’m here to coach you with passion, knowledge, and encouragement—in English or in French.

FR:

Lessons take place in a quiet, calm private pool, or I can travel to your pool if it’s located in downtown Montreal. For more advanced swimmers, some sessions may also take place in a public 25m pool to better support endurance. I offer a personalized, high-quality coaching experience built around you — your level, your goals, and your pace. Whether you’re looking to feel more confident in the water, improve your technique, prepare for a triathlon, or take your performance to the next level, I’ll guide you every step of the way with clear instruction, motivation, and support.

Each session is intentional, focused, and built to deliver real progress—while still keeping the experience fun, motivating, and enjoyable. Learning to swim is like learning a new language: everyone progresses differently, and patience and consistency make all the difference.

  • 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

For me, it really feels like I was born in the water — that’s what people always say. I started swimming really young and went on to compete for about 10 years. Even now, I still participate in events, especially long-distance ones. Swimming has always been a big part of my life. As I got older, I wanted to give back to the sport that gave me so much. Coaching gave me that sense of purpose — being able to share my passion and help others experience that same connection with the water.
  • 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

Swimming is so much more than just a physical activity — it’s very mental and technical at the same time. What I love most is helping people understand it in a way that feels simple and doable. When something finally clicks for someone, you can see the shift instantly — they move better, they feel more confident, and they actually start enjoying it. That transformation is what keeps me passionate every single time I get in the water with a student.
  • 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a “Superprof”?

I genuinely love being part of someone’s progress. I’m always in the water with my students — demonstrating, guiding, and going through everything together. It’s very interactive and supportive. I focus a lot on building confidence and celebrating small wins, because that’s how real progress happens. I think what makes me stand out is that I create a space where people feel comfortable, motivated, and excited to keep improving.
  • 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

Not necessarily in the same subject. I grew up in a time where coaching was a lot more intense — a bit harsh sometimes — and while it made me strong, it also showed me what I wanted to do differently.

One person who really stayed with me was my 5th grade teacher. I loved his energy — he was so encouraging, patient, and made you feel capable. That stuck with me.

Now, I try to bring that same kind of motivation into my coaching, but with a healthy balance. I’ll push you like a coach, but support you like a teacher. I want my students to feel challenged, but also safe and confident in the process.

I’m also always in the water with my students, which not all instructors do. For me, it’s really important — it creates that sense of support, like you have someone right there with you the whole time. It makes the experience more comfortable, more connected, and honestly, more fun too.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Consistency is everything — just showing up regularly makes such a difference. Being open to learning and making small adjustments is also key, because swimming is very technical. And honestly, celebrating progress along the way. Not just the big milestones, but the small improvements every session. That’s what keeps you motivated and builds real confidence.
