About Joccelyn

I graduated from Middlebury college with a degree in Psychology and Italian. During my education I studied French, Greek, Italian, while Spanish and English are my Native languages. With a passion for learning languages and traveling, I am enthusiastic to share the power of language with others and as a student of several languages I share with my students an affinity for the challenges that can arise.

I lived in Italy for a year during high school, living with a host family and offering ESL tutor to local Italian students of the middle to high school age. I lived in Costa Rica for 3 years and learned to read and write Spanish at home. I have also led large scale English tutoring classes at a Costa Rican University as well as to First Generation Immigrants in the US.

About the lesson

My Job is to give you tools to learn on your own and introduce or explain complex topics.

I value the diversity in students' interests and learning styles and challenge myself to adapt to every student's needs or styles.

Usually we take the first class to understand the foundation the student has and asses the comfortability with various topics as well as to establish goals and expectations. As needed we can go over concepts in order to ensure the student has a strong foundation. Once we get the ball rolling, we build are knowledge of increasingly complex topics - typically we work on one topic per lesson and ensuring that we get it before moving on! Ever class will feature some review so that all the gears are moving and do not get rusty.

For lessons I use a rough outline as follows if you want to learn new topics

- A warm up (either a game or question of the day tailored to your interests)
- Review of homework or old topics (discuss readings, do exercises, review writing etc.)
- Introduction of a new concept
- Practice the new concept
- And A final speaking exercise (story telling, games…)

Practice: We will find books that you would like to read, and supplement that with writing practice (journaling, creative writing, grammar worksheets, videos, etc. based on your learning style)

I can also review homework, schoolwork, set up speaking exercises that are tailored to your needs.
