About Maria

I am currently studying Biomedical Science as a mature student, exploring advanced human biology and the chemistry of the human body and living environment. I can provide support in Biology and Chemistry, up to and including A-Level- as well as all Sciences, English and French up to GCSE. I have been offering private lessons, both one-on-one and small groups from Key Stage 2 up to A-Level for two years now, and it is highly rewarding seeing the improvements made in students- in grades, confidence, exam technique and consistency. I have both voluntary and paid experience working with Primary and Secondary age groups, and currently am also employed in an Educational Service role, providing material designed to even teach the teachers!

About the lesson

I find it most useful to identify the learning skills that students struggle with the most- it might be memorizing large volumes of new information, applying knowledge to new situations, understanding complex scientific ideas, or sometimes simply managing time in exams! I teach my lessons in a way that targets these key areas- whilst going through the curriculum by topic, using easy-to-grasp analogies to make complicated concepts simple to understand. For exam students, knowledge will be tested with past questions without the pressure, whilst providing useful tips from examiners helps students make the most of their exam time to massively improve their marks. For younger learners, I can help create a solid grounding in their chosen core subjects at their own pace, working through lessons and pain points systematically ensuring they are fully confident to tackle new material and progress through to the next level. The lessons will fully compliment school curriculum, whether the end goal is to achieve a pass mark in a taxing subject, or to boost that future A-Grade to an A* (or that 7 up to an 8 or 9!).

Learning is fluid- one area may improve, whilst another begins to seem more difficult. I will provide regular progress tracking and updates to keep on top of this, and will support students through whichever way they best thrive. It might be regular challenges, visual learning, or providing extra educational resources to support school work.
