About Alex
I am currently working part-time at a local store, and have completed one and a half years of a Bioscience degree at Durham University before I realised it wasn't what I wanted to do. I achieved 85 points for my GCSEs and A*A*AB in maths, chemistry, biology, and physics respectively. Using my experience tutoring people in school, whether that was in clubs or one-to-one as a student helper, I hope to support people with their revision in a way that lets them actually understand what they are doing, rather than repeat what their teachers or school books have said. I understand that there can be a lot of problems when looking for help with exams, from poorly-worded explanations to unsuitable approaches to revising, and I aim to get rid of these issues with a friendly, equal, and cooperative environment.

My experience revising for important exams involved many people telling me how to revise, without much consideration for what worked best for me. This meant a lot of wasted time spent seeking help from tutors, teachers, and friends without ever feeling fully satisfied, prepared, or confident for my tests. I aim to adjust my approach to each pupil, my first question will be "How do you revise best?" Whether it's talking about difficult topics, setting small goals, or going through old tests, whatever works best for you, works best for me. I also try to provide a space where someone won't feel stupid asking any questions or needing something to be repeated (I have dealt with plenty of that myself!).
The lesson length depends on how busy you are; whether you are better at focusing over short periods of 20-30 minutes or would rather spend more time on 1-2 hour lessons, I can do either (within reason). I helped out as a student tutor in school for people in lower years in maths, biology, and french. My lessons are mostly for people taking their GCSEs, but I am able to teach people at lower or higher levels.
