About Yvonne
We start the first session by looking at the instrument anatomy and your personal musical interests. My BMus background ensures that even when we look at power chords or barre chords, we maintain a focus on technical clarity. Reading sheet music is a core part of our time, though we often branch out into blues progressions. I find that learning to improvise and solo requires a patient approach, which is why I keep our pace measured.
We will also spend time on strumming patterns to build your rhythmic confidence. I aim to ensure you feel secure in your technique as we progress through the curriculum. My goal is to make sure you have the tools to play well independently.

Fresh pine resin often smells like the hallways of the UBC School of Music where I earned my BMus. My days are split between performing with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and coaching guitarists in Montreal.
I have guided 106 students through their musical development. You might find that my teaching style is quite supportive. I enjoy working with teens and adults who are absolute beginners.
The guitar offers a unique path for those who seek to understand music theory. I am here to help you reach your goals.
