About Toby
About Me I am a BSc Psychology student at the University of Manchester with a strong background in mathematics and education. Having achieved an A in A-Level Maths, I understand the challenges students face and how to break down complex topics into clear, manageable steps. My experience as a Teaching Assistant and SEND Support Assistant in schools across Greater Manchester has given me valuable insight into different learning styles and how to adapt lessons to each student’s needs. I have also completed my Junior Cadet Instructor Certificate (JCIC), where I developed skills in lesson planning, instruction, and mentoring. I take a structured yet flexible approach to tutoring, working collaboratively with students to create a tailored learning plan that builds confidence and improves performance. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your understanding, prepare for exams, or boost your overall maths skills, I am here to support you every step of the way.

My Approach to Tutoring Mathematics can be challenging, but with the right guidance and approach, every student can develop confidence and succeed. My aim is to create structured, engaging lessons that are tailored to each student’s individual learning style and needs. I take an interactive approach, breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. Encouraging students to explain their reasoning helps reinforce understanding and build problem-solving skills. I also incorporate exam-style questions and past paper practice to help students perform their best. Lesson Structure I take a collaborative approach, working alongside the student to create a personalised tutoring plan that adapts to their class content, strengths, and areas for improvement. Each session is structured to ensure a balance between support, challenge, and independent thinking. 1. Student-led review – We start by discussing the topics covered in school over the past week, identifying any areas of difficulty. 2. Targeted learning – Together, we break down challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps, ensuring the student fully understands before moving on. 3. Guided practice – I provide structured exercises that encourage students to apply their knowledge, with real-time feedback and problem-solving strategies. 4. Adaptive learning plan – Based on progress, we adjust our focus each session, ensuring consistent improvement and preparation for upcoming topics and exams. Lesson length: 60 minutes (adjustable based on the student’s learning style and goals). My Qualifications & Experience - BSc Psychology student at the University of Manchester. - A-Level Maths (Grade A) alongside A* in Biology and A in Psychology. - Experience as a Teaching Assistant and SEND Support Assistant across Greater Manchester schools, supporting students with a range of learning needs. - Junior Cadet Instructor Certificate (JCIC), with experience creating lesson plans and leading structured learning sessions.
