About Jana
Certified by Cambridge University to teach English as a foreign language for adults, which I have done for over a decade on four continents, I have published original experimental research on vocabulary learning, and earned research-based masters degrees in sociology and applied linguistics with a specialization in language acquisition. My mission is to share what I have learned with a focus on curiosity, creativity, and humor.
My professional background spans four continents, and my students over the last decade have been diverse in their backgrounds and motivations: entrepreneurs, academics, professionals in the public and private sectors, and students preparing for international proficiency exams with the aim of studying or working overseas (I have also been in the role of administering such exams). My task is to guide each individual in the pursuit of their own goals with the help of my unique skills and experience.
My teaching role is to provide authentic communicative experiences, identify the areas where you can improve, and design your practice to make the best and most memorable use of your time. You can expect balanced skills practice: generous time dedicated to one-on-one speaking practice; listening and reading assignments based on authentic media aimed at native speakers and selected for your interests and level; writing practice customized for your specific objectives; and in-depth discussion of concepts and feedback in each session. Confident communication is emphasized throughout, with personal engagement, motivation, and rapport making practice effective and memorable. Evaluation is ongoing to track progress in terms of accuracy, fluency, and complexity of your emergent language, which gradually grows on a reliable base of knowledge.
