About Tom

I grew up in South Wales and with a lot of help and support from friends, teachers and family members managed a successful application to Cambridge to study engineering. I graduated in 2018 with both a BA (Mechanical & Aerospace) and an MEng (Mechanical Engineering). During my time at Cambridge I worked a lot in the areas of access & outreach including subject masterclasses, personal statement workshops and Q&A sessions for teachers and students. During this time I developed an in-depth knowledge of what makes a competitive application and what universities are looking for in a candidate. Since graduating, I have worked with an independent company that assists international students with applications to UK universities. I have plenty of experience working with students from a range of backgrounds to successfully apply to university. If this is something you'd like help with this year, let me know!

About the lesson

University applications can be daunting and from personal experience (at a state school in South Wales) teachers often either don't have enough time to help you individually or are very mistaken in what they think a university admissions department is looking for - this comes from spending time working with the admissions department for outreach work! I always want to help people to succeed and attend their dream universities. I'm happy to assist throughout the whole process from choosing the right course, shortlisting universities, creating a competitive application and (if required) preparing for interview. My background is in engineering so I'm most suited to help with applications to STEM subjects, or indeed Oxbridge applications. Outside of STEM/Oxbridge I am still able to give general help and guidance so feel free to message and we can have a chat!
