About Matilda
I graduated in June 2023 with a BA in History from Cambridge (First Class with Distinction), and have been mentoring and tutoring on a number of platforms consistently since before starting my degree. I love teaching and prompting young people to think in unexpected ways, and crucially to gain confidence – which isn't always straightforward. In my experience, getting in touch with your writing voice is so useful for finding your sense of self. I'm keen to help bring this out for others. I'm passionate about writing and editing myself (I wrote regular culture pieces and ran a publication called the Cambridge Review of Books) and I bring the same energy to engaging with students and mentees on their written work.

I tailor my teaching to each student - both their abilities and their goals. To write and think well, a safe space and good listening are so important. I ask lots of questions in order to encourage students to reach 'answers' themselves, ones that feel original and really theirs. I provide highly detailed, precise feedback on written work and try to help the student understand what working patterns and techniques suit them best. This individually-tailored approach works well for university applications, when it's all about figuring out what you want! As someone who's gone through the process recently, I can relate to many of its uncertainties, and provide specific, up-to-date advice for how admissions work.
