About Charmen
Focusing on the bow arm, we start the hour with a precise technical drill. It feels like a conversation about physics when we discuss the contact point on the string. We cover music theory, sight reading, and orchestral playing alongside specific grade exam prep for ABRSM or Trinity.
Shifting positions and refining left hand agility remain constant priorities in our time together. I track your development by sharing a detailed monthly progress report with parents.
Tuning by ear and mastering scales and arpeggios are vital components of the work. Rhythm and timing receive heavy attention throughout our sessions. Seeing a student finally nail a tricky passage is the highlight of my week. I look forward to hearing your progress.

Hobbyists and kids often find the violin daunting. To be honest, I struggled with the initial grip myself before formal training. My path led through the Glenn Gould School for a rigorous degree. I have spent 13 years guiding students through the complexities of string playing.
My secondary studies in guitar and voice round out my musical perspective. Success comes from consistent practice habits.
