About Senlin
As a certified and experienced ESL instructor, I value and utilize your existing knowledge, skills and experience to learn English, and use it as a tool to communicate instead of being too much obsessed with speaking and writing in "Standard English". In fact, I would advocate and cultivate your "Intercultural Communication Competence", namely your ability to use "your English" to communicate more effectively with people from different language and cultural backgrounds. That is a practical approach as well as an adequate expectation of the result of ESL teaching and learning.

I am most passionate and efficient in teaching adult ESL learners from different language and cultural backgrounds, cashing in their prior knowledge, skills and experience. I focus on developing their intercultural experience rather than teaching "Standard English". Meanwhile, my teaching is meant to equip my students with the "skill of fishing" instead of simply giving them the "fish", as ancient Chinese wisdom advises. My typical lesson starts with an anecdote, a story or a question, and develops, expands and then rounds up with a conclusion or a specific goal set for the day.
