About Dean

Hi, I'm Dean Sunico!

I’m a Civil Engineering Technology graduate and a Bachelor of Theology graduate with a passion for helping students learn, grow, and gain confidence in their abilities.

I understand that every student learns differently. Some students may need extra time to understand a challenging math concept, while others may need encouragement and guidance with reading, writing, or English. My goal is to create a patient, positive, and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges.

With my background in Civil Engineering Technology, I have developed strong problem-solving and mathematical skills that I enjoy passing on to students. My Bachelor of Theology has also strengthened my communication, reading, writing, and teaching abilities.

Whether your child needs help with homework, is preparing for a test, or simply wants to become more confident in Math or English, I will work with them at their own pace and tailor lessons to their individual needs.

I believe tutoring should be about more than getting the right answer. It should help students understand how to find the answer, develop good learning habits, and become more confident and independent learners.

Helping Students Learn, Grow, and Gain Confidence!

I believe every student is capable of learning and improving when they are given the right support, encouragement, and patience. My goal as a tutor is not just to help students get through their homework, but to help them understand what they are learning and become more confident in their abilities.

I provide personalized tutoring in Mathematics and English, adapting each lesson to the student's individual needs, learning pace, and current level. Whether your child is struggling with a particular concept, preparing for a test, or simply wants to strengthen their skills, I will work with them one-on-one to help them make progress.

My Teaching Approach

I try to make learning clear, comfortable, and encouraging. When a student doesn't understand something, I don't simply repeat the same explanation—I find another way to explain it.

For Math, I break problems down into simple steps and work through examples together before having the student try independently. My focus is on helping students understand why something works, not just memorizing an answer.

For English, I help students strengthen their reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension skills through practical exercises and one-on-one guidance.

I also believe mistakes are an important part of learning. Students should feel comfortable saying, "I don't understand," without feeling embarrassed. My goal is to create an environment where they can ask questions, make mistakes, and keep trying.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Each lesson is tailored to the student, but we generally begin by reviewing what they already know and identifying what they are having difficulty with.

We then work through the new material together, using simple explanations and examples. After practicing together, I give the student an opportunity to work independently so I can see what they understand and where they may need additional help.

We finish by reviewing what was learned and identifying areas to continue practicing.

Lessons can also be specifically designed around homework, upcoming tests, assignments, or areas where your child needs extra support.

What Parents Can Expect

As a tutor, I want parents to see more than just better grades. I want to see students become more confident, more independent, and less frustrated when they encounter something difficult.

I am patient and approachable, and I take the time to get to know each student's strengths and challenges. I understand that children don't all learn at the same pace or in the same way, and I am willing to adjust my approach to help each student succeed.

My goal is simple: to help your child understand the material, build confidence, and develop skills that will continue to help them long after the tutoring session is over.
