• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  My interest in music began as a teenager, I began playing on a beat-up old Yamaha my father brought home from a yard sale, figuring out tunes from video games by ear, this evolved into an interest in Jazz and Classical thanks to a really awesome teacher my parents knew.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  I am passionate about music and piano particularly because there is a profound joy in growing as an artist and getting inside pieces to bring them to a fine finish polish. I would liken it to learning to speak and express oneself in a language that one has been listening to and understanding regularly since infancy.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I enjoy teaching music because it is very rewarding to help others develop their musicianship, and pass along the information I was privileged to be given access to, and it is very fun to discuss music

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  My first piano teacher is a role model I really look up to because she was very patient with me, always made me feel welcome, was inspiring, and paid very close attention to my particular needs as a student. On top of these things, she made me reimagine the scope of what was possible, and to aim high. I try to bring these qualities to my own practice now.

• What are your keys to success?

  My keys to success are:
  
  a) Have a positive, humble attitude. no one is too good to practice or to focus on small details. Once you take this approach you can break anything down into manageable parts.
  
  b) Remember your love of music, it can be easy to lose sight of why one begins piano when tackling a challenge, technical exercise, or life gets crazy.
  
  c) Consistency and making practice a regular part of your routine is essential.
  
  d) Believe in yourself and aim high; a goal on the horizon, broken down strategically will help you move beyond your current skill level.
  
  e)Get a good teacher. I can not stress this enough. You will bypass decades of mistakes, avoid injury, and tap yourself into a tradition that is centuries long and can be traced back to the masters. One day perhaps you can pass this on as well.
