The Educational Class (The 40-Minute Period)
In an educational context, "the class" refers to a session of instruction. To make the most of 40 minutes, a teacher or student usually follows a structured flow:
Introduction (0–5 mins): This is the "hook." It includes settling the students, taking attendance, and reviewing the previous lesson to bridge the gap to the new topic.
Direct Instruction (5–20 mins): The core 15 minutes are used for explaining the new concept. This is when the teacher delivers the lecture, uses visual aids, or demonstrates a procedure.
Guided Practice (20–30 mins): Students work on a task or solve problems under the teacher's supervision. This is the "active learning" phase where students apply what they just heard.
Independent Activity (30–35 mins): A short burst of individual work to check for understanding.
Conclusion & Recap (35–40 mins): Summarizing the key points, answering final questions, and assigning homework
