About Tate

I have spent nine years helping more than 330 students develop their understanding and appreciation of biological science. My academic background includes a degree in marine biology and a master's in anatomy and physiology giving me broad expertise across organismal biology. I have worked in aquarium research veterinary clinics and educational institutions which has shaped my holistic approach to biology teaching. My students have pursued careers in medicine veterinary science marine conservation and biomedical research. I am particularly effective with students who are passionate about animals and the natural world helping them channel that passion into rigorous scientific study. I design custom visual materials and practical exercises that bring biological concepts to life. Outside of teaching I volunteer with marine conservation organizations conduct beach surveys and maintain a home aquarium dedicated to native species. I believe that biology education should foster not only academic achievement but also ethical awareness and environmental stewardship. Every student who works with me receives patient individualized support and encouragement to explore the living world with both wonder and scientific rigor.

About the lesson

My biology teaching is guided by compassion for living things and a deep respect for the complexity of biological systems. I teach anatomy and physiology through a systems-based approach that emphasizes how structure determines function at every level from molecules to organisms. For each body system I use medical imaging histological slides and three-dimensional models to develop spatial understanding. Marine biology is taught through virtual ocean exploration specimen analysis and discussions of conservation ecology and climate impacts on marine ecosystems. I emphasize comparative anatomy showing students how different species have evolved similar solutions to common challenges. My lessons incorporate extensive use of case studies from medicine veterinary science and conservation to make biological concepts personally relevant. I teach students to read and interpret biological data including graphs tables and experimental results. For exam preparation I focus on the precise use of terminology the logical structure of extended responses and the application of knowledge to novel biological scenarios. I also guide students in developing independent research skills including literature review experimental design and scientific writing. My classroom is a supportive space where curiosity is encouraged and mistakes are treated as learning opportunities.
