About Vahid
I am a dedicated Math and Statistics Tutor currently teaching Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Analysis at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), with more than 20 years of teaching experience at leading institutions including BCIT, Simon Fraser University (SFU), Douglas College, University of Calgary, and Carleton University. I specialize in helping high school, college, and university students build confidence and succeed in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis courses.
I have taught a wide range of subjects including algebra, calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical modeling at both undergraduate and graduate levels. My teaching approach focuses on clear explanations, real-world applications, problem-solving strategies, and personalized support tailored to each student’s learning style and academic goals. I also integrate modern tools such as Python, R, Excel, Google Colab, and AI-assisted learning technologies to enhance student understanding and engagement.
In addition to teaching, I have extensive experience in academic research and leadership. I served as Program Director for the Modeling of Complex Social Systems (MoCSSy) Program at SFU’s IRMACS Centre, leading multidisciplinary research projects funded by BC government ministries. I hold a Ph.D. in Computational Algebra from Carleton University and have contributed to more than 40 academic publications and several mathematical software projects. My background in both research and education allows me to help students not only improve grades, but also develop deeper analytical and problem-solving skills.

Rather than dictating answers, I focus on helping students become independent learners who can confidently solve problems on their own. I provide personalized homework, notes, and additional practice materials, and I review homework solutions with students to ensure strong understanding.
