About Isaac

Hi, I’m Isaac!

I’m a Computer Science student at Toronto Metropolitan University, certified by NVIDIA in generative AI and CompTIA Security+, and I’ve built real software projects of my own. I also love a good challenge. Give me a complex topic or a problem that won’t budge and I’ll happily dig in until it finally makes sense. I tend to hyper-fixate on hard things, and I’ve learned that the feeling of finally cracking them is one of the best parts of programming. I’d love to help you get there too.

I’ve been tutoring since 2022. I’ve supported university students from several institutions, as well as younger learners, so I know how to adapt to different levels, learning styles and paces. I’m bilingual in English and French, and I’m happy to explain concepts in either language.

I know what it’s like to feel lost in a programming class or to stare at code that refuses to work, so I teach the way I wish I’d been taught, with the goal of making it click. You’ll never get judgment from me, only patience and good questions. Whether you need to understand your course, get through a tough assignment, or you just want to build something fun, I’m happy to help you make it happen.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Isaac

My approach

We start with you. Before any code, I want to know who you are: your goals, your interests, what frustrates you about programming. I want you to feel comfortable talking to me and asking the “silly” questions, because those are usually the best ones. I then use what I learn about you to ground my explanations in examples that make sense to you.
Concepts first, then syntax and patterns. Once you understand the idea, the code stops feeling like memorization. You’ll see how the language actually works, so you can write it yourself instead of copying.
I ask questions instead of handing over answers. I guide you toward the solution step by step, which builds the problem-solving skills you need for assignments, exams and interviews.
I teach you how to find answers fast. Knowing where and how to look things up (documentation, error messages, the right search) is one of the most valuable skills a programmer has. You’ll learn it with me.

A typical lesson (60 minutes)

10 min: Check-in and review of the last session
20 min: New concept, explained with examples that fit you
20 min: Guided practice, where you write the code and I coach with questions
10 min: Recap, plus how to look up what you’re unsure about

Our first session is mostly about getting to know you, finding your level and setting clear goals together.

What sets me apart
I’ve worked on real projects and mentored other university students, so I can show how course concepts are used outside the classroom. I focus on understanding, so you’re not just surviving the course but becoming independent.

Who it’s for

High-school students learning to code or preparing for university
First- and second-year university students in CS, engineering and related programs
Python, Java and C/C++
Especially object-oriented programming (OOP) and data structures and algorithms, which many students find the hardest
Complete beginners are welcome, as are students who feel behind or anxious about programming

Let’s make coding make sense. See you in class!
