I have a long career in the health sciences, firstly as a practicing dentist, then a dental and dental hygiene clinical and theory instructor, and now teach pre medicine courses for a University in China. I am familiar with modern educational literature as far as student motivation, participation, and learning styles are concerned. My students enjoy my approachable classroom demeanor even though I may have challenging expectations of them. I employ such modern concepts such as flipped classrooms, teamwork building exercises, autonomous learning, self literature exploration, and group assessments, in combination with classical tools such as the written word assignment, oral presentation, formative assessment, and independent familiarization with pre lecture knowledge measurements.
