About Yasmin

English as a Second Language.I'm interested working with elementary aged students.
I have supported students acquiring English when I worked at the international school. I also supported newcomers students learning English during my practicum at Bloorlea Public school ( TDSB).
Working at PLASP, I created daily activities to further develop language skills.
As an Educational Assistant in my Kindergarten class, I use a variety of strategies to support the 2 students with learning exceptionalities. I use strategies such as a visual schedule, pictorial representation, and hands on learning tasks to meet students' learning needs. These are also strategies that can be applied to all students in any classroom.
I also strive to create a supportive learning environment that reflects the cultural diversity of the students. Enabling students from diverse backgrounds to draw upon prior knowledge and experiences is both empowering and validating. Using identity texts is a practice I have incorporated for students to bring personal lived experiences and unique narratives into our classroom. As part of my ESL/ELD role at BWF, I facilitated monthly Community Connections meetings, helping to build bridges between home and school, and increased my knowledge of student backgrounds.
Creating a safe, motivating learning environment, where all students can take risks and succeed is my goal.

As an ESL teacher :
Working directly with ELLs in an intensive ELD program, supporting the development of literacy and numeracy
• Selecting and implementing instructional and assessment strategies to meet the needs of ELLs
• Sharing resources, strategies and ways to differentiate instruction with colleagues to support ELLs in the mainstream classrooms
• Using digital tools to support the development and assessment of rich tasks
• Enhancing communication with families to develop strategies and approaches that build culturally responsive, equitable partnerships
